The Kenyan government has responded to reports that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will select Rwanda to replace Kenya as one of the co-hosts of the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

Pan-Africa Football's report indicated that due to a lack of progress in stadium renovation, Kenya would not be ready to host the CHAN set to take place in February. The two venues selected in Kenya, the Nyayo National Stadium and the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, are far from ready according to our source who claimed that "Kenya was not ready, the latest inspection shows Nyayo Stadium is only 10% complete, while Kasarani Stadium is 30% ready."

The Kenyan Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports sent a letter to Pan-Africa Football stating that the Cabinet Secretary of the ministry, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, will inaugurate the "CHAN 2024/AFCON 2027 Local Organizing Committee (LOC)" on Tuesday, December 10.

Despite the Kenyan authorities' claims that preparations are ongoing and that the country will still co-host the CHAN, our source indicates that the decision to name Rwanda as a replacement has already been made by CAF. CAF previously gave the Kenyan authorities until December 31 to finish all construction at the Moi International Sports Centre as well as other hosting preparations but it appears to be too late at this point.
