
The final part of the road to the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 was officially announced following the second qualifying stage draw held in Cairo on Thursday.
This edition of the tournament, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, is set to take place from August 2 to 30.
The competition, which exclusively features players competing in their domestic leagues, will mark the first time CHAN is co-hosted by three nations and its return to East Africa since Rwanda 2016.
Second Qualifying Stage: Seven teams battle for two spots
A total of seven teams are competing for the final two spots in the CHAN 2024 tournament.
The qualifiers will follow a knockout format played over two rounds, with each tie consisting of home-and-away legs.
Participating Teams in the Second Qualifying Stage:
Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Gambia, Malawi, Gabon, South Africa

Match 3 & 4: South Africa vs. Egypt
Match 5 & 6: Gambia vs. Gabon
Algeria received a first-round bye due to strong performances in the last three editions so they automatically qualify for the second round.
Qualification Path
The winner of Comoros vs. Malawi will face the winner of South Africa vs. Egypt, with the victor securing a spot in CHAN 2024.
The winner of Gambia vs. Gabon will take on Algeria, with the winner earning the second qualification slot.

The final tournament will feature 19 teams, divided into four groups: three groups with five teams and one group with four.
Group A (Kenya - Hosts): Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia
Group B (Tanzania - Hosts): Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
Group C: (Uganda - Hosts): Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Two Playoff Winners
Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria
