Nigeria international Chidera Ejuke scored the only goal of the game as Sevilla edged out Real Sociedad 1-0 in a La Liga fixture at Anoeta on Sunday.
After a 0-0 result in the first half, Sevilla, despite playing away, looked the most composed side in the second period and they needed only one minute after the restart to take the lead.
It was Ejuke, who scored with a neatly taken effort past Sociedad goalkeeper Unai Marrero. The goal turned to be the winner as Sevilla grinded out their ninth victory of the season.
Sevilla are now lying 10th on the log with 36 points accumulated from nine wins, nine draws and nine defeats. In total, Ejuke has notched two La Liga goals in the current 2024/25 season, and provided one assist.
It was versus Real Valladolid that Ejuke scored for the first time in the league this season in a 2-1 victory on September 24. Next up in the league for Ejuke and Sevilla is a home match against Athletic Club on March 16.
Prior to linking up with Sevilla in July 2024, Ejuke made 55 league appearances in total at CSKA Moskva, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, another Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq scored the winning goal as Valencia defeated Valladolid 2-1 at Mestalla Stadium. Diego Lopez opened the scores for Valencia with only seven minutes played but Juanmi Latasa levelled matters for the visiting side in the 40th minute for a 1-1 draw at the half-time break.
However, Sadiq saved the day for Valencia when he found the back of the net in the 58th minute to ensure his side registered their sixth win of the season and moved up to 16th on the league table.
Since moving to Valencia, Sadiq has managed seven appearances, scored four goals but is yet to provide an assist.
