Coach Muhsin Ertugral has commented on his departure from Cape Town City FC of South Africa’s Betway Premiership on Monday, March 17, 2025, saying ‘it is never saying goodbye’.

The Turkish mentor released a statement via his Facebook page hours after the Citizens’ management announced that they parted ways with the coach on mutual grounds.

“It’s never easy to say goodbye, but sometimes the game leads us down unexpected paths,” he wrote.

“I’ll always be grateful for the memories, the lessons, and the incredible players I’ve had the privilege to know. Though some situations may seem unfortunate, I believe there’s always an opportunity to turn them into something greater. I wish nothing but success and good fortune for the team. Boys, Keep pushing, stay strong, and may luck always be on your side.”

Ertugral left his role after a nine-game winless run across all competitions in the South African top-flight league with Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Marumo Gallants being the last straw.

The Cape Town-based team has since named first-team coach Diogo Peral as the caretaker mentor with Lebogang Manyama and Roger De Sa as his assistants.

Etrugral joined the team in January 2025 to replace Eric Tinkler who was sacked while City were in 12th place. The former Kaizer Chiefs trainer has left the side in 13th place.
