Cape Town City's interim coach Mushin Etrugral has urged his troops to remain focused and not be carried away by their emerging giant-killing antics.
The Turkish coach said this after City beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 in a Betway Premiership match on Wednesday evening to build on a similar result against another Soweto giant, Kaizer Chiefs, on his debut last weekend.
Reacting to the match at DHL Stadium in Cape Town, the man who succeeded Eric Tinkler last week, attributed the victory to teamwork.
“Our team showed incredible heart and unity, making history to win back-to-back against the Soweto giants. This achievement is a testament to the hard work of our players and coaching staff, and we couldn’t have done it without the unwavering support of our fans. We are proud of this moment,” Etrugral wrote on his Facebook page.
The 65-year-old said it was important for City players to replicate such performances in the remaining games this season. “It’s very important with all the excitement not to lose focus. With the same determination and spirit, we now look forward to the challenges ahead as we prepare for the next games,” he added.
The former Chiefs mentor took over the reins while the Citizens were in 12th place with 11 points from 10 games, but they have now jumped up to sixth place in the standings, 10 points behind the second-ranked Pirates and 13 away from leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
