Management of Iran’s Pro League side, Esteghlal FC, has held a crisis meeting following a dip in form which has piled pressure on South African coach Pitso Mosimane.

Esteghlal’s statement indicates that management told Mosimane and his backroom team that the recent results, winning once in five consecutive league games, were unacceptable.

The meeting reportedly attracted club CEO Engineer Ali Nazari Jovibari, board member Tom Al-Akhtiar Holding, Dr. Ali Tajernia, and technical staff.

Mosimane reportedly presented a report to the board explaining why the team is struggling, amid his call for reinforcements in this transfer window.

“After listening to the technical report of the head coach and technical staff members, the managers of Esteghlal club raised the fans' concerns and justified their objections,” the statement reads.

“Following this meeting, members of the board of directors, CEO and representative of Tom Al-Akhtiar of Persian Gulf Holding told the technical team that the current position is not acceptable to managers, fans, and pioneers, and according to that we should all work together to get out of this situation.”

The meeting comes after Esteghlal FC lost 0-1 to Shams Azar on Monday afternoon to remain in a distant 11th place in the log table.

The former Al Ahly mentor joined the Iranian outfit on a year-long contract in October 2024 replacing Sohrab Bakhtiarizadeh. Mosimane’s stay in Iran has been punctuated by reports of delayed salary payments.
