A turbulent 2024-25 season continued to bring more negative news this week for Algerian giants CR Belouizdad after head coach Abdelkader Amrani reportedly went absent without leave (AWOL).

The veteran Algerian coach has not participated in training with CRB for most of the week and the club has not received any communication from Amrani, setting in motion the search for a new coach. Top Algerian outlet La Gazette du Fennec reports that foreign coaches who are being considered include Brazilian Marcos Paquetá, recently departed MC Alger coach Patrice Beaumelle and Zoran Manojlović.

Both Paquetá and Manojlović have previous experience with the club. Paquetá led CRB during the 2023-24 season, winning the Coupe d'Algérie title with the club that season as well as the 2021-22 Algeria Ligue 1 Professionnelle title during his other spell with the Algiers side. Beaumelle appears to be the most ambitious target after the Frenchman won the championship last season with MCA.

In the meantime, Samir Houhou has taken charge of training and will be on the bench for CRB's Ligue 1 match against Paradou AC on Saturday. CRB are currently 5th on the table, five points back of leaders JS Kabylie. The club were eliminated from the CAF Champions League group stage earlier this month following a defeat to South Africa's Orlando Pirates in Group C.
