Crested Cranes shot-stopper Ruth Aturo has officially been unveiled by Tanzanian club Tausi Women FC following her departure from Kenya’s Vihiga Queens.
Aturo, who impressed in the first round of the ongoing season with Vihiga Queens by keeping seven clean sheets, now joins an ambitious Tausi WFC side. The club, formerly known as Ukerewe Queens, competes in the second tier with aspirations of earning promotion to the top flight.
Tausi FC recently strengthened their setup by appointing Spanish coach Maria Ruiz as head coach and bolstering their squad with experienced players. Among their latest signings is former Lady Doves utility player Zuena Aziz, who is part of the eight new additions unveiled by the Dar es Salaam-based club.
Aturo, who arrived in Tanzania over the weekend, is expected to return to Uganda soon ahead of the Crested Cranes’ Women’s AFCON Qualifiers doubleheader against Ethiopia.
The lanky shot-stopper is widely regarded as one of the most decorated female players in Ugandan football, having emerged from the renowned Kawempe Muslim conveyor belt.
Her career has seen her play for clubs across various countries, including Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim and UCU Lady Cardinals, Finland’s KTP Kotka, and Saudi Arabia’s Al Shabab and Al Taqadoum. Aturo also featured for Vihiga Queens at the CAF Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers held in Uganda in 2023.
