The Uganda women’s national football team concluded their Algeria tour on Saturday with a narrow 1-0 defeat in an international friendly at Tchacker Stadium, Blida, Algiers.

Ghoutia Karchourni’s precise free kick in the 34th minute sealed victory for the hosts, marking the second consecutive loss for the Crested Cranes after falling 2-1 in the first match on Wednesday.

Head coach Sheryl Botes made adjustments to the lineup for the second encounter, bringing in Resty Nanziri and Ruth Aturo for Shakirah Nankwanga and Daisy Nakaziro.

Despite the back-to-back defeats, Botes emphasized the value of the experience for her squad.

“I’m first of all happy that we got two intensive games against such an opponent like Algeria. I believe the players benefited a lot facing such a team twice,” Botes stated. “Definitely, we had some positives picked despite losing both games and these can only be building blocks going forward.”

Botes highlighted the importance of facing strong opponents in preparation for next year’s packed schedule, which includes the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Crested Cranes return home with lessons learned and a clearer understanding of areas requiring improvement as they gear up for future competitions.
