Crested Cranes defensive midfielder Joan Nabirye has joined Turkish Women’s Football Super League side Trabzonspor just days after parting ways with Russian outfit Spartak Moscow following a mutual agreement to terminate her contract.

Nabirye, who signed a two-year deal with the Russian club in January 2023, had a promising start in Moscow but struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup during the second half of the season.

Her departure marks the end of her brief but eventful tenure in the Russian Women’s Super League where she followed in the footsteps of fellow Ugandan Fauzia Najjemba who currently plays for Dynamo Moscow FC.

She brings valuable international experience to Trabzonspor. Before her stint in Russia, Nabirye played for FK Minsk in Belarus and had successful spells at Kampala Queens FC, Gafford Ladies in Uganda and Vihiga Queens FC in Kenya.

Trabzonspor Kulübü Kadın Futbol Takımı, known as Bordo-Mavililer is based in Trabzon, Turkey and was established in 2007. Led by head coach Özlem Önder, Trabzonspor competes in the Turkish Women’s Football Super League and is one of the league's more ambitious teams.

Nabirye’s move is expected to bolster Trabzonspor’s midfield as they aim for a strong finish this season. Her versatility, defensive prowess and international pedigree will undoubtedly be a significant boost to the team’s ambitions.
