Crested Cranes striker Resty Nanziri made a memorable start to her journey in the India Women’s League, finding the back of the net as East Bengal defeated Kickstart Karnataka FC 2-0 in the league’s season opener.

Nanziri, who recently joined East Bengal from B.93 Copenhagen in Denmark, doubled her team’s lead in the 49th minute after Sandiya Ranganathan had opened the scoring in the first half. Her composed finish signaled her arrival as a key player in the league.

Her move to East Bengal makes her the third Ugandan in the India Women’s League this season, joining Fazila Ikwaput and Aminah Nababi.

Ikwaput, playing for Gokulam Kerala, featured in a 1-1 draw against Odisha in the second match of the day, while Nababi, recently signed by Sethu FC, is set to make her debut in their opening game against Sreebhumi FC on Saturday afternoon.

Nanziri’s performance underlines her potential to make a significant impact in India, adding to the growing presence of Ugandan talent in women’s football on the international stage.
