Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC has been dealt a major transfer blow following the departure of their influential captain Phiona Nabulime, who is set to join Egyptian giants Masar FC.
The dynamic midfielder, who featured in Kawempe’s goalless draw with Makerere last weekend, left Uganda on Tuesday to complete her move before confirming it via her X handle, marking a significant step in her career
Her exit comes just a few months after Hadijah Nandago’s switch to India’s Sethu Women FC in January, leaving Kawempe to adjust without two of their key players for the remainder of the season.
Nabulime’s journey at Kawempe began in the junior ranks before earning a spot in the senior team in 2022.
She played a crucial role in the club’s triumph last season, helping them secure the 2023/24 FUFA Women Super League title.
At Masar FC, she will link up with fellow Ugandans Shadia Nankya and Aisha Nantongo, joining a team that won a domestic double in 2023 by claiming both the Egyptian Women’s Cup and the league title.
Masar has also made strides on the continental stage, with Nankya and Nantongo playing a key role in the club’s bronze medal finish at the last CAF Women’s Champions League edition.
