Magesi head coach Owen da Gama has come out to explain why his club has been in a good run of form in the Betway Premiership.
Since losing to Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 on March 4 at FNB Stadium, Magesi have gone ahead to register four straight league wins. Magesi recovered from Chiefs setback to beat Richards Bay 1-0, beat Golden Arrows 1-0, defeated Stellenbosch 1-0 and floored TS Galaxy 2-1.
“There’s so many top coaches in the PSL, so it’s really an honour, I’m really happy and excited [to have won coach of the month] but at the end of the day, it’s something I share with all the coaches, I’m not coach of the month alone,” said Da Gama as quoted by idiskitimes.
“We might not have the best or experienced players, but we play as a team and it’s helped us – we can improve obviously. But we cover for each other, work for each other, support each other, it’s a collective effort on and off the field, that’s how you take a losing team and win, you bring them together as a unit.”
On Magesi’s good run at at Seshego Stadium, he said: “Six wins are not enough, you know. You have to win at least 12 games, and then you can say it is a slaughterhouse. But we have been doing well here. We are the only team playing here, so that gives us the freedom to know that it is our home ground.
“We have been waiting for a long time because we found it very difficult to win at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. The reason we found it so difficult to win games at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium is that there are so many teams playing there. So, you are just another visitor there.”
With their next fixture against Orlando Pirates already postponed, Magesi will return to action against Sekhukhune United on Saturday, May 3, at Seshego Stadium.
