KCCA FC head coach Abdallah Mubiru has expressed deep disappointment following his side’s 1-0 Startimes Uganda Premier League home loss to Express FC in the Kampala derby at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Saturday.

“It’s very disappointing, and I am very disappointed,” Mubiru admitted candidly in his post-match remarks. “I only feel sorry for the fans as I know what they are going through but I can say we shall keep pushing and working to make them happy.”

The decisive moment came in the 30th minute when Express FC midfielder Emmanuel Wasswa capitalized on a swift counterattack to slot home the only goal of the game. Richard Basangwa's inch-perfect assist set up Wasswa for the crucial finish that ultimately separated the two sides.

Mubiru acknowledged his team’s shortcomings, stating, “We conceded a goal and failed to score. We are not happy with this defeat but we are going to fight to correct everything. Express players were better than us today, that’s all.”

The loss saw KCCA FC drop points for the second time in three games, with Express climbing to fourth on the league table level on 19 points with KCCA but boasting a superior goal difference. Both teams have played 11 matches and attention now shifts to Matchday 12 which kicks off on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

When asked about trailing league leaders Vipers SC by four points, Mubiru remained defiant, dismissing any suggestion that the title race was over. “If the league is won after 11 games, then people can start celebrating but if it’s won at the end of the season, there is still a long way to go,” he asserted.

KCCA FC diehards will hope Mubiru’s resolve translates into improved performances as they continue chase league glory in the upcoming matches ahead.
