The Djibouti senior women's football team's recent participation in international games has earned them a deserved debut on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking for 2025.
In a remarkable achievement for the East African nation, Djibouti has entered the list of recognized women's national football teams earning position 196 out of the ranked 196 sides in the world, FIFA's press release says.
"Djibouti make their debut, entering the global pecking order in 195th place. This is just one of the ranking-related storylines served up the last couple of months, during which 127 internationals have been contested, including African qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027," the statement reads.
African teams such as Tanzania have made their presence felt on the world table after being named the best mover by points (42.12) while Kenya are the best mover by rank, up by seven steps. Tanzania (138th) and Kenya (142nd) share the honour of being this edition’s biggest climbers in terms of places, having both soared up seven spots.
On the other hand, it is a bad way to start the year for Tunisia who recorded the worst mover by points and rank. Overall, 46th-ranked Nigeria remain Africa's highest-ranked team followed by South Africa (55th in the world), Morocco (60), Zambia (64) and Ghana (65).
The USA still lead the table despite having suffered a 2-1 reverse at home in the SheBelieves Cup trophy decider; their conquerors, Japan (5th, up 3), return to the top five for the first time since December 2015.
The next edition of FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be released on 12 June, 2025.
