Defender Dominic Musonda has become the third Zambian ever to grace Malawi’s TNM Super League after signing a one-year contract with record champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
The 16-time champions unveiled the 24-year-old, joining compatriot Joseph Silungwe, who featured for Bullets at the turn of the century and Sandros Kumwenda who had a stint with Mighty Wanderers FC.
The left-back, last on the books of Mutondo Stars in Zambia’s MTN Super League, has since said he was excited to join the Malawian giants ahead of the new season.
“I am incredibly grateful for this chance and feel at home here in Malawi. While I am excited about signing the contract, I understand the importance of working hard to earn my place in a team full of talent,” he told Bullets media.
Musonda is new coach Peter Mponda’s fourth defensive signing after Chikumbutso Henderson, Andrew Jovinala and Blessings Joseph, filled the void created by the exodus of defenders Nickson Nyasulu, Gomezgani Chirwa, Colin Mujuru, Precious Sambani and Alick Lungu.
The Zambian earned the contract, on a free transfer, after a two-week trial with the Blantyre-based giants. Meanwhile, Bullets face Kamuzu Barracks on Saturday in a pre-season game.
The Super League season is expected to kick off in the first week of April with Bullets opening the floor against Mponda’s former employers, Silver Strikers.
