The DR Congo Football Federation (FECOFA) have decided to rename its domestic cup competition, the Congo Cup also previously known as the Coupe du Congo.
The new name of Congo Cup is now ‘President’s Cup’. The 59th edition of the cup will include professional and amateur clubs. FECOFA revealed that DR Congo president Felix Tshisekedi agreed to sponsor the knockout tournament.
According to Foot RDC, the competition will be held under the theme of "peace and solidarity" for the Eastern part of the country. The nation is ravaged in conflict especially in the Eastern regions bordering Rwanda. FECOFA hopes the tournament can make rebels to resort to a more peaceful path.
The tourney is expected to be held in different groups initially divided by region. The final of the tournament will be on June 30 with FECOFA stated that the special date was chosen because it is the nation's Independence Day. AS Vita Club won the most recent edition of the Coupe du Congo with a 1-0 victory over FC Celeste in 2024.
