Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC were the toast of Ghanaian football fans when they reached last season’s CAF Confederation Cup semi finals. The “Still Believe Boys” have however been a far cry from last season’s sterling output both domestically and continentally.

They now sit 15th on the Ghana Premier League standings with 11 points from 12 matches.

Dreams FC coach Karim Zito explained the reasons for their struggles in the ongoing season.

“The pool of players who were with us for the past five years left. When you look at the current players today, only three played in the CAF Confederation Cup and the rest are young players,” Zito told Pan-Africa Football.

“One (player acquired) from Division Two (third division in Ghana) and this is the way we went about recruiting our players."

“So I think that is the main cause. It is not about the performance alone that will judge a team but our problem this year is putting the ball at the back of the net and we are working on it.," he added.

The experienced trainer, who guided Ghana’s Black Satellites to win the 2021 U-20 AFCON tournament in Mauritania, watered down claims of the club getting relegated at the end of the season.

“Why are you pinning us with relegation when the first round is yet to finish. This is not the time for us to be talking about relegation and even when you look at those at the top, you hit your chest boldly and say that Gold Stars have won the league."

“Until we finish, there is a time we can talk about relegation not now. We are struggling but look at the points difference among the club.

“So don’t see us as candidates for relegation. We are struggling all right but we are even yet to finish the first round and you are talking about relegation.” Karim Zito told Pan-Africa Football.

Dreams FC are away to current FA Cup holders Nsoatreman in week 13 of the Ghana Premier League on Saturday, December 14.
