With all three teams in the relegation zone of England's EFL Championship earning points on Monday, Derby County needed maximum points and captain Ebou Adams led The Rams to an important 3-1 victory at West Bromwich Albion.
The Gambia national team central midfielder arrived to nod in from a Marcus Harness corner kick service in the 7th minute, getting the visitors off to a dream start at The Hawthorns. The relegation battlers added another before the half hour mark to snatch a 2-0 halftime lead.
Adam Armstrong pulled a goal back for West Brom in the 70th minute but Derby would not be denied. Late on in the 87th minute, Adams played an excellent ball from midfield to find the run of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing who produced a brilliant finish to confirm only the third victory away from home this season for Derby. Adams now has 6 goals and an assist in 42 league matches this season.
The fight to avoid the drop continues to escalate with intensity. Derby are only out of the bottom three by virtue of a superior goal difference to Luton Town, with whom they are tied on 46 points. Derby finish their season with a trip to Hull City on Saturday before finishing up at home against Stoke City on May 3.
