Burnley look poised to return to the English Premier League with only four matches left in the EFL Championship following an important 2-1 home win over Norwich on Friday.
Tunisia national team midfielder Hannibal Mejbri picked an excellent time to score his first goal of the season as an excellent start gave the hosts enough cushion to hold on for maximum points. The former Manchester United player made a run into the Norwich penalty area and brilliantly took down Josh Cullen's pass before finishing in the 14th minute.
Jaidon Anthony doubled Burnley's lead ten minutes later but Norwich did not capitulate easily. After halftime, the visitors dominated and pulled a goal back through Jack Stacey in the 76th minute. However, the hosts held on for a victory to put themselves three points ahead of title contenders Leeds United.
After struggling for playing time at Manchester United as well as on loan last season at La Liga club Sevilla, Friday's Man of the Match is finding his stride once again in England's second tier. After gaining a year of experience on loan from United to Birmingham City for the 2022-23 season, the current campaign has seen Hannibal play a big role for Burnley under coach Scott Parker.
Burnley are now five points clear of third place Sheffield United who they will face at home in ten days after traveling to Watford next weekend. Hannibal has 1 goal and 3 assists in 36 matches across all competitions this season and the 22-year-old will continue fighting for an opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League next season.
