Two more quarterfinalists were determined on Friday as the Round of 16 stage proceeded in the Egypt Cup. Big spenders Ceramic Cleopatra and Alexandria club Smouha both produced clean sheets to join Thursday's winners ENPPI in the final eighth.
For Ceramica Cleopatra, two second half goals were enough for the club based in Giza. Recent Egypt national team debutant Mahmoud Zalaka opened the scoring soon after halftime and South African forward Fagrie Lakay, on loan from Pyramids FC, confirmed victory fifteen minutes later with his second goal of the season.
In the later match, Smouha found a goal inside the opening ten minutes that stood as the match winner against ZED FC. Former Arab Contractors striker Mohamed Salim found the goal with a well placed header from an early cross. Friday's victory will be a boost for Smouha who are underperforming in 12th place in the Egyptian Premier League.
Matches in the Egypt Cup will resume at the beginning of February with the completion of the Round of 32 which still has two matches remaining. Al Masry will host Wadi Degla while Pyramids face Mansoura on February 4 before the Round of 16 resumes in early March.
