El Gouna advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024-25 Egypt Cup after a 3-1 victory over Team FC. The match remained scoreless until the final third when all four goals were scored.
Nigerian forward Favour Akem opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, displaying control inside the box before finishing with skill. Ahmed Reda doubled the lead in the 88th minute with a header.
Team FC responded in stoppage time when Omar Tawfik converted a cross from Islam El-Sayed with a direct shot in the second minute of added time.
However, El Gouna restored their two-goal advantage as new signing Mahmoud Abbas scored in his first game with the team. The forward hit a beautiful strike in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
With this victory, El Gouna became the fourth team to reach the quarterfinals, joining ENPPI, Smouha, and Ceramica Cleopatra.
Path to the quarterfinals
El Gouna had previously defeated El Qanah SC 2-0 in the Round of 32, while Team FC pulled off a surprise against Al Ittihad Alexandria with a 2-0 victory.
Currently, El Gouna competes in the Egyptian Premier League, while Team FC plays in the third division.
