Diagnostic imaging reports from an MRI have revealed that Al-Masry SC and Egypt national team forward Mohamed El-Shami has suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of his left knee. This injury will require surgical intervention to reconstruct the torn ligament.
Dr. Mahmoud El-Shahat, the team’s physician, stated that the club’s management will immediately begin making arrangements for the player to undergo surgery abroad, in an effort to ensure his return to the field as quickly as possible.
El-Shami sustained the injury during Al-Masry's match against Pharco, which ended with a 1-0 victory for Al-Masry in the Egyptian Premier League (Nile League). The player then underwent MRI scans on Friday evening which confirmed the extent of the injury.
Al Masry is competing in this season's CAF Confederation Cup in Group D, alongside Egypt's Zamalek, Nigeria's Enyimba, and Mozambique's Black Bulls.
