Egyptian Nile League outfit ZED FC has confirmed their Ethiopian striker Abel Yalew is staying with the side this season following limited playing time in the first third of the campaign. Local media reports previously suggested he is seeking for the exit door. The reports have now been debunked by ZED FC as Pan-Africa Football understands.
Yalew left Ethiopian giants Saint George to join ZED. His time in North Africa has been rocky as he struggled for game time. ZED FC football director Walid Salah El-Din exclusively told Pan-Africa Football that Yalew is not playing due to the fact that ZED have potent strikers at their disposal.
"He is a good, respectable, and lovely player. He is not playing because we have many forwards, and those who are currently participating are performing well."
Salah El-Din also noted regarding Yalew's injury that kept him off from the first team. "Additionally, the player had a dental issue that he was treating and he also suffered an injury from which he has now recovered. There is nothing wrong with him—he is a beautiful person, there's absolutely no problem."
Yalew's agent Azaria Tesfatsion also denied rumors suggesting he will leave the club mid-season. Tesfastion in a Facebook post said the reports are unfounded and Yalew is happy at ZED.
Yalew is yet to make an appearance the Nile League this season. He played in 12 games during the 2023/24 season with his last appearance for ZED coming on August 4 in a defeat at Pyramids FC. His absence from ZED affected his time with the Ethiopian national team, who did not call Yalew up for their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches in November.
