The Egyptian Premier League delivered an exciting round of action on Friday with Al Ahly and Pyramids providing plenty of action in two thrilling encounters.

Al Ahly held to a draw by Ittihad Alexandria

Al Ahly played out a dramatic 1-1 draw against Ittihad Alexandria at Al Salam Stadium.

The game witnessed thrilling and missed chances, beginning in the first half where Al Ahly’s Emam Ashour squandered a golden chance to open the scoring, missing a penalty in the 44th minute as his shot soared over the crossbar.

The second half brought redemption for the hosts.

A penalty awarded in the 67th minute was confidently converted by Amr El-Sulaya, putting Al Ahly in front.

However, Ittihad’s resilience shone through in the dying moments of the game.

In the 87th minute, Bekale Aubame latched onto a precise cross inside the penalty area and fired home an exquisite finish, stunning Al Ahly fans and securing a crucial point for his team.

Ittihad goalkeeper El Mahdy Soliman, who was with the Egypt national team during the international window, delivered a stellar performance throughout, denying Al Ahly multiple scoring opportunities and earning the Man of the Match award.

The draw sees Al Ahly retain their position at the top of the league table with 7 points, narrowly ahead of Pyramids and Ittihad Alexandria, who share the same tally but trail on goal difference.

Pyramids triumph over National Bank in a comeback win

Pyramids secured a commanding 3-1 victory against National Bank, overturning a first-half deficit with a clinical second-half display at Air Defense Stadium.

The opening half saw National Bank dominate proceedings and create a flurry of chances.

However, profligacy in front of goal proved costly.

Despite missing several opportunities, including a one-on-one chance cleared by Ali Gabr and another effort striking the post, National Bank took the lead in the 45th minute. Defender Mohamed Abdelghani headed in a cross, sending his team into the break with a 1-0 advantage.

Pyramids emerged in the second half, equalizing in the 50th minute through Mostafa Fathi, who skillfully directed a cross into the net.

Just two minutes later, Sodiq Awujoola capitalized on a low pass to slot home the second goal.

National Bank continued to squander chances, including another clear-cut opportunity blasted over the bar.

Pyramids sealed the win in the 74th minute when Awujoola netted his second of the match, reacting to a rebound off the crossbar to make it 3-1.

The victory propels Pyramids to second place in the league, tied with Al Ahly on 7 points but trailing on goal difference.

Meanwhile, National Bank remains stuck near the bottom of the table with just 1 point, languishing in 17th place.
