The eighth round of the Egyptian Premier League (Nile League) continued today with two matches as Al Ahly and Pyramids FC secured victories to climb to the top two positions in the league standings.
Al Ahly 2–0 El Gouna
Al Ahly achieved second consecutive win in the Nile League and the third in all competitions with a 2-0 victory over El Gouna.
The first goal came in the 63rd minute, courtesy of the in-form Emam Ashour, who struck a shot from inside the penalty area to break the deadlock.
The match reached a dramatic moment in the 89th minute, when an El Gouna player’s header was cleared off the line by Al Ahly's player. The clearance initiated a counterattack led by Emam Ashour, who passed the ball to Omar El Saai. El Saai rounded the goalkeeper and shot towards an empty net, only for the ball to hit the crossbar and deny both teams a goal within seconds of each other.
In stoppage time (90+1 minute), Emam Ashour doubled the lead, finishing a low cross from Karim El Debees with a strike inside the penalty area.
Ashour has now scored five goals in his last two games with Al Ahly, scoring two goals today and three goals in the previous game against Stade d'Abidjan in CAF Champions League.
With this victory, Al Ahly now leads the Nile League standings with 18 points while El Gouna is in 17th place with 6 points, just above the bottom of the table.
Pyramids FC 3–0 Ghazl El Mahalla
In the second match of the day, Pyramids FC delivered a 3-0 win over Ghazl El Mahalla to complete their third consecutive win in Nile League and the fifth in all competitions.
Ali Gabr opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a header. In the 51st minute, Ibrahim Adel doubled the lead with a shot from inside the box. Fiston Mayele scored the third goal in style, being one-on-one with the goalkeeper, deceiving the goalkeeper with a clever move and then slotting the ball into the net.
This win elevated Pyramids FC to 17 points, securing 2nd place in the league standings. Meanwhile, Ghazl El Mahalla is in 14th place with 8 points.
