Al Ahly knew they were in for a difficult match against Al Masry in Alexandria, considering Masry had yet to concede a goal in five matches. However the reigning Egyptian and African club champions got the result they needed in a 2-0 victory courtesy of Yahya Attiyat Allah's strike from a free kick.

The Morocco national team left back's excellent curling effort arrived towards the end of the first half. Mohamed Magdy "Afsha" added another goal for Ahly in second half stoppage time and after a run of poor form, the Cairo giants are now poised to seize first place.

The early matches featured plenty of goals. Osama Faisal opened the scoring for Al Ahly Bank in the 42nd minute of their clash with Ceramica Cleopatra but the visitors equalized with Ragab Nabil's goal in the 76th minute before Marwan Othman scored the match winner in the 78th minute to secure victory for Ceramica.

Ceramica Cleopatra now has 11 points in fourth place in the league table while Ahly Bank has 5 points in 16th place.

In the other early match, Ghazl El Mahalla achieved a big away victory against Smouha by 4-2. Smouha's Hossam Hassan scored first from a penalty in the 20th minute but Ghazl equalized through Abd AlRaheem Amouri in the 32nd minute.

In the second half, Ghazl El Mahalla earned two penalty kicks scored by Mohamed Ali Ben Hamouda and Mohamed Hamdy Zaki in the 53rd and 56th minutes. Mahmoud Saber reduced the deficit for Smouha in the 75th minute but former Espérance ST forward Mohamed Ali Ben Hamouda concluded the scoring for Mahalla in the 88th minute on another penalty kick.

In Thursday's other later match played at the same time as the Ahly-Masry duel, Petrojet found a dramatic late winner in their 1-0 victory over El Gouna. Ahmed Reda scored in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time to give Petrojet their second consecutive victory in league play after a poor start to the season for the Suez club promoted to the top tier for the 2024-25 season.
