The Egyptian Premier League's second round continued with Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Pyramids FC each securing victories from six matches played on Thursday and Friday.
Al Ahly triumphs over ZED FC
Al Ahly played the round with a narrow 1-0 win against ZED FC, courtesy of an 11th-minute goal by the in-form Taher Mohamed Taher.
Al Ahly’s starting lineup included: Mohamed El Shenawy, Omar Kamal, Rami Rabia, Khaled Abdel Fattah, Yahya Attiat Allah, Emam Ashour, Ahmed Nabil Kouka, Marwan Attia, Hussein El Shahat, Wissam Abou Ali, and Taher Mohamed Taher.
The game’s only goal came from a smooth team move started by Omar Kamal, who combined with Taher to deliver a well-placed low cross for Taher to guide his finish inside the near post.
Although Al Ahly kept its lead until the end, they came close to doubling it when Yahya Attia Allah struck a powerful free kick that rebounded off the crossbar.
A controversial moment arose when ZED FC appealed for a penalty after Rashid Ahmed was kicked by an Al Ahly player instead of the ball inside the penalty area, but the referee and VAR allowed play to continue.
This 1-0 win marked Al Ahly’s second consecutive victory in the league, following their 5-2 opening win against Ceramica Cleopatra. Al Ahly’s next match will be against Al Ittihad on November 22 at 7.00 pm Cairo time, following the international break.
Zamalek secures second consecutive victory over Smouha
In another match, Zamalek claimed their second win in a row with a 2-0 victory over Smouha.
Nasser Mansi scored first in the second minute, and Mostafa Shalaby added the second goal in the 85th minute.
The game saw Zamalek missing star player Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” due to injury while Nasser Maher was rested and team captain Shikabala made a return to the starting lineup.
Zamalek’s starting eleven included: Mohamed Awad, Omar Gaber, Hamza Mathlouthi, Hossam Abdel Maguid, Mahmoud Bentayeg, Mohamed Shehata, Nabil Emad “Dunga,” Shikabala, Abdallah El-Said, Mostafa Shalaby, and Nasser Mansi.
The first goal came after a mistake by Smouha's goalkeeper, who attempted to dribble past Mansi but lost possession, allowing Mansi to score easily.
The scoreline held until the 85th minute when Hamza Mathlouthi headed the ball to Mostafa Shalaby, who converted it into the net, sealing the victory.
This win brings Zamalek’s points tally to six, placing them at the top of the standings alongside Al Ahly and Al Ittihad.
Zamalek's next fixture will be against Al Masry on November 23 at 7.00 pm Cairo time after the international break.
Pyramids FC defeats ENPPI in a close match
In the third match, Pyramids FC earned a vital 2-1 victory over ENPPI. Ahmed Atef "Otta" scored both goals for Pyramids in the 3rd and 35th minutes, while ENPPI's captain Ali Fawzi scored for his team from a penalty kick in the 47th minute.
The match saw the return of Ramadan Sobhi to Pyramids' starting lineup, having missed the opening game, and Ahmed Atef "Otta" made his first league start this season after returning from a loan at ZED FC.
Atef’s first goal was a well-placed header from a cross by Mostafa Fathi, while his second goal came from a precise shot inside the box after an assist from teammate Fiston Mayele.
ENPPI pulled one back with a penalty from Ali Fawzi and nearly leveled the score when Fawzi struck a free kick that hit the crossbar.
This win gives Pyramids four points in the league standings after an opening draw with Petrojet and a second-round win. Pyramids will face National Bank of Ahly on November 22 at 4.00 pm Cairo time after the international break.
