Enyimba FC coach Stanley Eguma has blamed the team’s 0-0 draw against Bendel in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on his strikers, who were not able to convert their chances on Tuesday.

In the fixture at Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, Eguma’s charges failed to break down a resilient Bendel side despite dominating most parts of the game.

Speaking after the game, Eguma, who was taking charge of his first game since replacing Olanrewaju Daniel Yemi, openly criticized his striker for not taking their chances.

“It wasn’t a bad game today, we had a lot of chances which we couldn’t convert, we had a lot but I attribute this to some kind of inferiority complex in the players and some of them are jittery, because we did well from the middle of play but when it gets to finishing, our conversion rate was very poor,” Eguma told Pan-Africa Football.

“We couldn’t take those chances and what that means is that we are able to create the chances and we can play as a team but I think attacking approach in the team needs to improve for us to be able to get the goals coming by finishing well.

“I think I just came in and had not seen the team well but at the end of the first round I will be able to have the opportunity to look at weak areas in the team and bring them up and make sure that we seal all loopholes and make sure we start performing better but for now there is nothing I can do, what I have is what I am going to use. When I get the chance I will seal the loopholes and work on the attacking area, which is the main problem for the team.”

The draw left Enyimba ninth on the 20-team league table with 24 points from 16 matches. They have managed five wins, nine draws and two defeats.
