Enyimba head coach Stanley Eguma has admitted that a lot needs to be done to improve the Aba-based outfit following their 2-0 defeat against Kano Pillars in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture on Thursday.

The fixture at General Sani Abacha Stadium saw the visiting Enyimba go down to first and second half goals. It was Abba Adam, who scored a brace in the 26th and 72nd minutes to hand Eguma his first league defeat since joining Enyimba.

Speaking after the game, Eguma admitted he was not impressed with what he saw from his players and maintained that they will need more time to put things right.

“What I saw here today is not encouraging at all,” Eguma said as quoted by CompleteSports. I believe that with the little time I now have to work with the team, we’ll get better. Yes, we must.

“It’s unfortunate that we lost the game. I think we really need to improve our game and step up. If we address the areas of weakness I noticed today, we’ll improve significantly before the second stanza of the league resumes.”

Eguma added: “Honestly, we’re not happy with our current position, but you’ve to understand that I just joined the team. I’m working hard to ensure that things improve.

“The players are still adjusting to my philosophy and tactics. They’re not bad, but there are areas where we need to fine-tune and improve so we can achieve better results.”

The defeat left the People’s Elephants in eighth position of the 20-team league with 27 points from 18 matches. They have secured six wins, nine draws and suffered three defeats.
