After a nine-match winless streak, Nigerian giants Enyimba announced on Saturday that the club has parted ways with coach Yemi Olarenwaju. Stanley Eguma will step in for now to lead the club following Olarenwaju's dismissal.

The young coach enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks in Nigerian football, beginning in the lower leagues in 2019 before being picked by Nigerian football legend Finidi George to be his assistant at Enyimba. When George stepped down to take charge of the Nigeria national team in May 2024, Olarenwaju was named interim coach before taking over on a full-time basis in August with the firm endorsements of George as well as another famous Nigeria football legend, Enyimba chairman Nwankwo Kanu.

However the results did not arrive under the stewardship of the young 32-year-old tactician. Enyimba currently sit in 11th position on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table and are in last place in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup with only one point from three matches.

Outside of an inspired comeback 2-2 draw at home against Egypt's Zamalek in their CAF Confederation Cup clash on December 8, Enyimba have not scored in a match since mid-November with three consecutive 0-0 draws in NPFL play.
