Algerian Ligue 1 outfit ES Sétif has named Tunisian coach Nabil Kouki as their new trainer. Sétif and former coach Reda Bendris parted ways after the latter boycotted work for two days.
The Sétif-based club did not try to keep Bendris at the technical helm as they appoint the well-traveled Kouki. Bendris received the news of Kouki's hiring after he conducted a training session with the player. According to Algerian media, Bendris took time off from the job due to receiving threats from ESS supporters who reportedly even confronted the coach near his home.
In 2022, the 54-year-old Kouki won the Algerian Ligue 1 title with CR Belouizdad. It will his second spell at Sétif as he previously led them in for three seasons from 2019 to 2022. Kouki is well known for making Sudanese side Al Hilal competitive in continental competitions, reaching the semifinals of the 2015 CAF Champions League.
2014 African champions Sétif are currently fourth in the Ligue 1 standings with 21 points.
