Ethiopia is set to play Sudan in East Africa's regional qualifiers for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The two legged game will be played out in the North African nation of Libya. The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) confirmed that Benghazi will host the two games on December 22 and 25.

Coach Mesay Teferi has called up 23 players for the tie. As expected the squad is largely composed of players from the Ethiopia senior side. Adama Ketema striker Sintayehu Mengistu got a surprise call up and is joined among others by Hadiya Hosaina high flying striker Temesgen Berhanu.

Teferi omitted current Ethiopian Premier League top scorer Mohammed-Nur Nassir. Nassir scored the winning goal against DR Congo during last month’s African Cup of Nations qualifier.

Ethiopia progressed to the last round of CHAN’s qualifier after Eritrea withdrawal. Sudan beat Tanzania to set up a date with Ethiopia. The Walias have qualified for CHAN on three occasions with their most recent appearances at the 2022 edition in Algeria where they were eliminated in the group stages.
