Ethiopia: Mekele 70 Enderta appeals to EFF over decisions taken by the league

Ethiopian Premier League side Mekele 70 Enderta has sent an appeal letter to the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) over decisions taken by the league financial regulatory committee on Monday, 24th of February.


The task force set up over the summer found the club and midfielder Yeabsera Tesfaye guilty of breaching the regulation. The club paid Tesfaye a down payment through a third party when he signed over the summer.


The league penalized Tesfaye 1600 USD and Mekele 24,100 USD. Now the one time Ethiopian champions has appealed the decision to the EFF Appeal Committee.


The North Ethiopian side appealed in accordance with EFF discipline regulation Article 98 (1). The club further asked the committee to suspend the decision for a later day. The club also noted they have evidence that they will present once the appeal case begins.


The league gave the club and Tesfaye seven days to pay the penalty. Tesfaye has also been ordered to return the full down payment amount within seven days.


Mekele 70 Enderta is one of the four clubs that have been penalized for not abiding by the players transfer regulation. The regulation seeks to help the league to have a healthy competition and avoid tax evasion by clubs and players.
