In only his second match with new club Newroz SC in the Iraq Stars League, Ethiopia national team midfielder Gatoch Panom opened his account with a crucial equalizer against defending champions Al Shorta
The 31-year-old used all of his physically imposing presence to head in from a free kick service deep into second half stoppage time to give Newroz a 2-2 draw away from home against heavy favorites Shorta. The former Fasil Kenema and Saint George star spoiled the day for Shorta who would have moved to the top of the table with a victory.
No better way to earn the gratitude and adoration of the supporters! Panom is off to a dream start at Newroz who are based in the Iraqi Kurdistan region close to the border with Iran.
A long time member of the Ethiopia national team with over sixty appearances, Panom is enjoying a fresh start abroad after a lackluster spell with Ethiopian Insurance who allowed him to leave on a free transfer according to Pan-Africa Football's Omna Taddele. Newroz are in 14th place in the Iraqi top tier and are in action again next Wednesday against Al-Qassim.
