Ethiopia Premier League: Hawassa Ketema and Tarekgn in a rift

The 2022/23 Ethiopian premier league young player of the month award winner Yoseph Tarekgn and Hawassa Ketema has been involved in a big rift after the later barred the former from training.


The two times Ethiopian champions notified fans that the midfielder skipped training sessions and is suspended from the club.


Tarekgn joined the Lakers following his contract with his boy hood club Adama Ketema elapsed in the summer of 2024. He played in sixth league fixtures and yet to score or assist at his new side.


The 21 years old Ethiopian international had a superb season with Adama where he bagged 12 league goals in 2023/24 season. His last game for Hawassa came on December 2024 against Arbaminch Ketema.


Tarekgn claimed he is injured and he notified the club regarding his situation. An advisor to Tarekgn who wants to stay anonymous told Pan-Africa Football that they took the matter to the Ethiopian Football Federation. "We wrote to EFF explaining the situation. They (Hawassa) left him out without a proper notice."


Hawassa are struggling in the current season as they are in the relegation zone with 11 points.
