Record Ethiopian champions Saint George officially announced a new shirt sponsor deal as they aim for financial stability. The Horsemen signed a three years shirt sponsor deal with Arada Bet, a sport betting company based in Addis Ababa.
The announcement came during the club’s 89th year anniversary at the Abebe Bikila Memorial Stadium. According to Saint George, the deal will last for three years. The deal is worth 800,000 USD (100,000,000 Ethiopian Birr) to be paid over the period of three seasons.
Saint George recently has been struggling financially after their main backer MIDROC seized any support to the club.
MIDROC owner and patron of Saint George Ethiopian born Saudi billionaire Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi got into a rift with the club’s chairman Abenet Geberemeskel as the former quit financial support for the most successful club of the country.
The ongoing court battle between the two tycoons took a toll on Saint George as the club struggled to keep their key players.
The new shirt deal is expected to help the club as they seek financial stability. They are currently third with 29 points in the log table.
