Ethiopia and SuperSport United striker Abubeker Nassir said he is happy with the hat-trick he scored against Djibouti in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying on Monday. Nassir was brilliant for the Waliyas as he bagged his first hat-trick in the national team colors.

The former Ethiopian Coffee player said he waited for a long time to cherish this moment. “For me to score a goal after two years makes me very happy. Because it has been two years since I have played for the national side. The goals will motivate me to do more. We badly needed the result so we deserved to win.”

Nassir gave his plaudits to coach Mesay Teferi after the Djibouti encounter. “I want to thank the coach. He gave me the opportunity to play for the national team again. I want to develop as a player and assist the national team to notch positive results.”

Nassir is yet to make his SuperSport debut this season in the South African Premiership due to injury. The 25-year-old striker confirmed that he won’t be playing in the top flight for SuperSport this season due to foreign player limitations that have excluded him from selection. Nassir will now continue to build his fitness by participating in training and practice games to be available for next season.
