Ethiopian Insurance head trainer Gebremedhin Haile stated the eight points gap that his side created won't guarantee the Ethiopian Premier League title.
Insurance are top of the standing after beating reigning champions Commercial Bank of Ethiopia 2-1 in round of 22 in Adama. The win takes the Addis Ababa side eight points clear of second placed Bahirdar Ketema
Speaking to Soccer Ethiopia after the encounter Haile said he is cautious on a title talk. “We have 14 games to play. An eight point lead won’t guarantee a title. That is just tough to predict. Anything can happen in football. But I do know that this gives us extra motivation to push forward. I have told my boys about staying humble as we have 14 games left. All in all, the result is good.”
The veteran coach Haile led Jimma Aba Jifar and Mekele 70 Enderta to a league crown in 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons respectively. He is eyeing for another title win with his third club. Ethiopian Insurance’s fine form earned Haile plaudits among fans.
Haile further noted his side is clearly playing for the title. He previously avoided speaking about title talk but now the former Ethiopian national side trainer stated Insurance are in it for a business. “It is not wrong to say that we are playing to win the league. But we clearly have a long way to go. Look what happened to Hadiya Hosaina after winning six games. We don’t know how it will unfold.”
Ethiopian Insurance have never won a league title since its inception in the 1970s. They are top of the table with 41 points after amassing 12 wins in 20 games.
