Ethiopian Coffee scored in the second half to defeat Mechal 1-0 in Round 23 action on Friday from the Ethiopian Premier League. Bahirdar Ketema were held by Sihul Shire in the other fixture of the day.

Mechal’s woes in the current league campaign persisted after they succumbed to a 1-0 loss against Ethiopian Coffee in the Hawassa University Stadium. The Browns struck the lone goal of the tie in the second half with Anteneh Tefera on target.

Tefera scored with a rebound after his initial shot was denied by Ugandan custodian Nafian Alionzi in the 64th minute. Tefera bagged his ninth of the season as he fights for the top goal king award.

Ethiopian Coffee occupy second position with 36 points, eight points behind leaders Ethiopian Insurance. Mechal are winless in their last nine league games as pressure mounts on head coach Gebrekristos Birara. The military side progressed to the Ethiopian Cup semifinals but their league outings have been a different story. They are ninth with 29 points.

Elsewhere, relegation battlers Sihul Shire managed to force a barren draw against Bahirdar Ketema. The Waves of Tana are fourth with 34 points while Shire remain 17th with 16 points.
