Ethiopian Premier League: Ethiopian Insurance extend their lead

In Round 22 of the Ethiopian Premier League on Tuesday, top side Ethiopian Insurance overcame Commercial Bank of Ethiopia 2-1 to extend their lead at the summit. On fire Wolayta Dicha came out victorious in the later match over bottom side Wolwalo Adigrat University to go fourth.


In the top rated tie, Ethiopian Insurance were too good for reigning champions Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. Ugandan import Allen Kayiwa scored his first league goal of the season after a defensive blunder by CBE's Fetudin Jemal in the ninth minute. However, the home side leveled matters before half time through a goof finish by Kitika Jema.


Insurance fought back in the second half to assert their dominance and were rewarded when Abubakher Sani headed home from inside the box.



Gebremedhin Haile's charges are top of the table with 41 points, eight points clear of second placed Bahirdar Ketema. CBE are 10th with 28 points. Later on, Carlos Damtew scored in the first half to hand Wolayta Dicha a crucial win over Wolwalo Adigrat University.



The Sodo based club is now fourth with 33 points. Yared Gemechu's side continued on their impressive form as they stay unbeaten in their last five league games.Wolwalo are bottom with nine points.
