
Fasil Kenema came from behind to beat Mechal 4-2 as Week 22 finished up from the Ethiopian Premier League on Wednesday in Adama. Saint George yet again dropped points while Mekele 70 Enderta returned to winning ways.
Four-star Fasil Kenema went a goal down early but managed to overcome a struggling Mechal side. Veteran striker Getaneh Kebede was the star of the show as he bagged a brace.
Abel Negash gave the military side the lead in the 28th minute after poor goalkeeping from Emperors custodian Fasil Gebremichael. Kebede restored parity before the first half ended through a header. He then gave Fasil the lead after the recess.
Fasil Kenema’s domination continued in the second half as they struck twice through Biniyam Getachew and Megnot Debebe. The Army side got a late consolation with Philimon Gebertsadik scoring. Fasil Kenema are 11th with 27 points while Mechal slipped to eighth with 29 points.
Mekele 70 Enderta scored a stoppage time winner to pip Arbaminch Ketema 1-0. Bona Ali tapped in the winner in the dying moments of the game to give the North Ethiopian side a vital win. Mekele are 13th with 25 points. Arbaminch occupies seventh place with 30 points.
Saint George and Diredawa Ketema shared the spoils in the later kickoff which ended with a 0-0 draw. The Horsemen are sixth with 30 points. The Easterners are now fighting relegation as they are 14th with 22 points, two points above the drop zone.
The league will take a recess for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games.
