Ethiopian Insurance cemented their lead atop the Ethiopian Premier League on Friday with a win over Diredawa Ketema. Earlier in the day, Mechal and Wolwalo Adigrat University shared the spoils in Adama.
Ethiopian Insurance needed a second half goal from Mohammed Abera to break down a resilient Diredawa Ketema. Abera’s second half strike was the difference between the Addis side and the Easterners. Diredawa Ketema were much changed after their draw against Mechal but they failed to hold Insurance.
Insurance extended their lead at the summit to six points. They top the standings with 38 points. Diredawa Ketema are 14th with 21 points.
Elsewhere, Mechal’s downward spiral continues after a frustrating barren draw against strugglers Wolwalo Adigrat University. The Army side were one of the clubs to be tipped for a league title but the dream is now turning into a nightmare. Mechal have failed to score in four successive league games and are winless in their last seven league games.
Mechal moved to seventh place with 29 points while Wolwalo Adigrat are still bottom with nine points.
