Ethiopian Premier League: Mechal drop points as Hadiya Hosaina climb to Second

Week 12 of the Ethiopian Premier League saw leaders Mechal dropping two valuable points while high flying Hadiya Hosaina continued on their impressive form to climb to second in the log table.

Mechal played out a goalless draw against Ethiopian Insurance in an Addis Ababa derby. The military outfit coach Gebrekirstos Birara blamed a cagey affair for the goalless draw and vowed to bounce back in the next round.

Hadiya Hosaina scored early to down Sidama Coffee by a 3-2 score. Temesgen Birhanu bagged a brace while Eyob Alemayehu also netted for Hadiya Hosaina (video of the goals further below). Elsewhere, Wolwalo Adigrat University secured their first point of the season following a barren draw against Addis Ababa giants Ethiopian Coffee.

Holders Commercial Bank of Ethiopia continued to suffer as they failed to beat Dire Dawa Ketema with the game ending in a goalless draw. The Tigray derby between Mekele 70 Enderta and Sihul Shire saw Shire emerge victorious 1-0 thanks to a goal from Birhanu Adamu.

Mechal tops the league with 21 points. Hosaina are second with 19 points. Mekele 70 Enderta, CBE, Hawassa Ketema and Wolwalo are in the relegation zone. The league will be interrupted for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier games and will resume after December 25.
