Ethiopian Premier League: Mekele 70 Enderta stun Hadiya Hosaina to end winless streak

Week 25 of the Ethiopian Premier League commenced earlier on Sunday with Mekele 70 Enderta beating Hadiya Hosaina 2-0. A relegation dogfight between Sihul Shire and Wolwalo Adigrat University ended in a draw in the earlier match.



Mekele 70 Enderta scored in each half to stun Hadiya Hosaina 2-0 in Hawassa. Ghanaian forward Benjamin Kotey opened the scoring in the first half. Former Ethiopian Insurance player Biruk Mulugeta doubled the lead with a brilliant finish ten minutes before time.


The one-time Ethiopian champions return to winning ways while Hadiya Hosaina are on a six-game winless run. Mekele 70 Enderta are 13th with 28 points, while Hadiya Hosaina are 6th with 34 points.


In a Tigray derby, Wolwalo Adigrat University came from behind to force a 1-1 draw against Sihul Shire. Hailemichael Tuemelsan gave Shire the lead. The Yellows leveled matters with Kassim Rezak’s header in the second half. Shire were down to ten men in stoppage time when team captain Netsanet Gebremedhin was shown a red card.



Last week, Wolwalo sacked head coach Tsegaye Kidanmariam but still have not been able to win a match since late January. Shire are 17th with 17 points while Wolwalo are bottom with 11 points.
