Week 13 matches from the Ethiopian Premier League continued at the Adama Science and Technology University as Saint George and Mekele 70 Enderta came out victorious. Saint George beat Adama Ketema 2-1 while Mekele 70 Enderta pipped Wolwalo Adigrat University by a 1-0 score.
It was a lively second half as record Ethiopian champions Saint George scored late to bag all three points against Adama Ketema. Amanuel Erbo struck in the 83rd minutes to hand the Horsemen the lead. The goal was controversial as the assistant referee waved his flag for a foul before Erbo scored.
Adama replied in the stoppage time through former Wolayta Dicha striker Sintayehu Mengistu. Deep into the injury time Adama goalie Natnael Tefera gifted Tegenu Teshome to hand Saint George a victory.
The win helped Saint George to be fifth with 18 points. Adama missed out on an opportunity to close the gap on the top teams as they now sit 12th with 15 points on the table where only three points separate them from fourth placed Diredawa Ketema.
Earlier in the day, the first Tigray derby since 2020 between Mekelle 70 Enderta and Welwalo Adigrat University ended 1-0 in favor of Mekelle. Second half substitute Awet Kidane scored the crucial goal eight minutes before full time.
Mekelle 70 Enderta are now out of the relegation zone as they are 13th with 14 points. Struggling Wolwalo Adigrat University are 18th with a single point from 11 league outings.
