It was a mixed set of results in Week 25 of the Ethiopian Premier League as Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Sidama Coffee, and Hawassa Ketema all won their respective games. Saint George’s woes continued with another league defeat, as pressure mounts on head coach Fasil Tekalegn.
Reigning champions Commercial Bank of Ethiopia pipped Saint George 1-0 in the early kickoff. CBE registered their first league win over the Horsemen since 2006. Ugandan striker Simon Peter's first-half strike was the difference between the two sides. Peter scored from the edge of the box after a poor clearance by Saint George goalkeeper Temesgen Yohannes.
CBE are now fifth with 35 points, while Saint George slipped to 11th with 31 points after another defeat.
Second-placed Bahir Dar Ketema missed a chance to close the gap on leaders Ethiopian Insurance following their 1-0 loss to Sidama Coffee. Fikreyesus Teweldebirhane scored the only goal of the match.
Sidama Coffee sit 10th with 32 points.
Relegation battlers Hawassa Ketema swept aside Wolayta Dicha 1-0. The Lakers enjoyed huge home support at the Hawassa University Stadium as they push for league safety. Eritrean import Ali Sulieman's brilliant volley handed Hawassa a vital win.
Hawassa Ketema are still in the relegation zone with 24 points, two points away from safety. Wolayta Dicha are third with 37 points.
