Ethiopian Premier League: Wins for Saint George and Coffee before Sunday's Sheger Derby

Saint George and Ethiopian Coffee won their respective week 17 games of the Ethiopian Premier League in action from Wednesday. The two Addis Ababa rivals will meet for a crunch Sheger Derby on Sunday, February 2 in a highly anticipated showdown.


Saint George beat Wolayta Dicha 2-0 to go second in the table. Ghanaian midfielder Abdu Samiu and Amanuel Arbo scored for the Horsemen to extend their unbeaten run to seven games under head coach Fasil Tekalegn.



Saint George go second with 28 points, one point shy of leaders Ethiopian Insurance. Dicha are ninth with 20 points.


Ethiopian Coffee were too strong for Bahirdar Ketema in Wednesday's later match with the Browns winning 3-1. Ghanaian striker Hafiz Konkoni got a brace while Anteneh Tefera struck late to hand Coffee the three points. Former Fasil Kenema striker Mujib Kassim scored for Bahirdar.



Coffee are now seventh with 22 points, one point adrift of fifth place Bahirdar Ketema.


Saint George and Ethiopian Coffee will lock horns on Sunday for the first Sheger derby of the season at the Adama Science and Technology Stadium. The match is confirmed to be live on SuperSport. A large number of fans from both clubs are also expected to attend the encounter.
