Ex-Malawi skipper named under-20 women’s team coach

Former Malawi senior women’s football team midfielder Maggie Chombo has been named the country’s under-20 coach, with Chisomo Nkhoma placed in charge of the under-17 side.
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) confirmed the hiring of Chombo and Nkhoma ahead of the 2026 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers and COSAFA Under-17 Championship, respectively.
Malawi will start the World Cup first round journey by hosting the Central African Republic in the first leg on May 11th, 2025, at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, and the return leg on May 18th at the same venue.
Chombo has returned to the post she held in 2021 during similar World Cup qualifiers.
The former Scorchers captain has since named a 31-member squad for the World Cup qualifiers ahead of the camp training starting on April 28th, 2025, in Blantyre.
Meanwhile, Nkhoma has since released a 30-member squad for the COSAFA Under-17 Girls Championship in Namibia from 10 to 17 May 2025.
Malawi are in Group A alongside hosts Namibia and Comoros.
