Renowned Serbian coach Milutin "Micho" Sredojevic has officially been unveiled as the new head coach of Sudanese football giants Al Merrikh SC.

Micho, who has been out of management since September last year following his departure from the Libya national team joins the club on a one-and-a-half-year contract. The former Uganda Cranes tactician steps in to replace Giovani Solinas who was relieved of his duties on January 8 due to a series of underwhelming performances.

Micho’s primary task will be to revive Al Merrikh’s season and secure a competitive finish in the league. Interestingly both Al Merrikh and their fierce rivals Al Hilal are currently competing in the Mauritanian Premier League due to the ongoing political turmoil in Sudan.

Al Merrikh find themselves in a challenging position, sitting 10th on the table while Florent Ibenge’s Al Hilal are 6th with six games in hand. Adding to Micho’s team, 2024 Uganda Premier League-winning coach Dusan Stojanovic has been named as his assistant, bringing additional expertise to the technical bench.

This is not Micho’s first stint in Sudanese football, having previously coached Al Hilal during the 2010/11 season. His experience and familiarity with the region are expected to play a crucial role in guiding Al Merrikh back to prominence.

Micho’s immediate focus will be on steadying the ship and positioning Al Merrikh as strong contenders despite the challenges posed by the league’s unique circumstances.
